social studies teacher Maryann Nielsen was named the school's teacher of the year, according to Tiger Online.
Says Tiger Online:
The award acknowledges excellence and effectiveness in classroom instruction. It is also designed to recognize professional development and the role the teacher has played in being a part of the school and community.

“I’m very honored and humbled and surprised,” Nielsen told the student publication. “It’s been sort of overwhelming with so many people telling me how gracious they are. There are a lot of really strong, hardworking teachers on our staff, so it’s an honor to be selected from among that group of people.”
Nielsen is now eligible to become teacher of the year.
