St. James Expands its Youth Choir

St. James' Youth Choir program—The Choristers—is now going year-round.

“I’m so excited to see the Choristers program take off," said new music director Sarah Drabant. "I have found children’s choirs to be something that I truly love, as it allows me to work with young people as a music educator and choral artist, as well as serving a larger, more diverse, and more global community.”

Beginning Sept. 25, young singers aged 7 to 14 can study basic vocal technique and music literacy; learn traditional Episcopal hymnody and service music, as well as sacred contemporary and world music; and explore new opportunities for leadership in worship through music.

Rehearsals will take place once a week on Sundays following the 10:15 service.

Choristers will combine with the St. James' Choir to sing for Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday services, and on other occasions throughout the year.

About the Teacher

In addition to being the new Music Director at St. James’ Episcopal Church, Drabant serves as the choral director for the Orange County High School of the Arts in Santa Ana.  

Drabant holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a master’s degree in choral music from the University of Southern California. 

She's been a music educator, professional choral singer and choir director for six years—and has had the great pleasure of conducting children’s choirs on tour in China, Austria, Italy and the Czech Republic.
