The Parcel Tax Debate—Is It Needed?

Community members weigh in on whether or not the tax is needed. Where do you stand?

Patch that South Pas residents will likely be asked to renew a parcel tax in February 2013 that  Superintendent Joel Shapiro says funds 25 employees, among other programs in the district.  

In an article published by Pasadena Star-News April 30, various community members weigh in on whether or not the tax is needed:

"Given what is going on in Sacramento and the games that are played around education funding, I don't know how districts do it to be honest. The parcel tax ... has been able to stabilize and normalize the budget situation for the district." — PTA President Julie Giulioni

"I understand there are problems in the state but the bottom line is if you look at it on paper we are a rich district." —District parent and former Los Angeles Unified School District Administrator Harry Gerst

"We continue to be in an economy where some people are unemployed or underemployed and that's a hard group to get support from because they are suffering themselves individually," —Bradley Hudson, chairman of the parcel tax's citizen's oversight committee
