PHOTOS: Tiger Track Wins CIF Title
Girls track and field team wins first track championship in school history. Congrats!
relay teams, sprinters, hurdlers and a high jumper came together to win the coveted CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) track championship trophy Saturday.
Edging Orange County track powerhouse, Mater Dei, the Tigers garnered enough points to come out on top and reign over hundreds of Southern section schools.
It was coach PJ Hernandez's (a SPHS alumn) first CIF title after having won numerous Rio Hondo League crowns. Hernandez is a three-time coach of the year in the San Gabriel Valley.

The girls placed high in both relay races, a distance race, high jump, and both the 1200m and 300m hurdle races; they also picked up points in the 200 and 400m races.
With most of the competitors being underclassmen, the Tiger track team will be assured of being in contention the next couple of years for another run at the title.
