Viewfinder: Signs of South Pasadena

A look at some events in town from the past week.

This week's highlighted events include the Powder Puff football game, which pits high school senior girls against their junior class compatriots in a flag football game. The annual event, which has been held for decades, was won by the seniors who came back from a 10-point halftime deficit.

There was also the naming of track star Sam Pons as Mr. GQ as well as the sudden passing of Jodi Taylor-Zens at age 61. Jodi as was known all over town and was an institution in South Pasadena, having served in a variety of capacities in the city -- photographer for the South Pasadena Review, a force with city's annual 4th of July festivities (moderating the parade on TV), hosted a local cable show, executive director for the city's Chamber of Commerce. She worked for Bristol Farms for many years before going to Paseo Colorado in Pasadena as marketing director. She will also be remembered  for  always having  a smile on her face., and leaves behind a legacy in South Pasadena.

South Pasadena has become host to many film settings. This week, St. James Church was the scene for the season finale for the ABC series Brothers and Sisters. Also, recently retired police sergeant Joe Lunnon has come back to town as a reservist (the same role previously performed by current SPPD chief Joe Payne and county supervisor Mike Antonovich) and he was warmly received by the people he formerly served while on active duty.
