Cruz'n for Roses: Hot Rod and Classic Car Show

For the seventh year running, the South Pasadena Tournament of Roses Annual CRUZ’N FOR ROSES Hot Rod and Classic Car Show and the South Pasadena Police and Fire Department Annual Open House will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2011 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

The car show will be staged on Mission St. from Fair Oaks to Meridian while the open house will be held in the 800 block of Mound in front of the fire station and in the back lot of the police and fire department on Hope St. west of Mound.

Hundreds of the finest street rods, muscle cars, and classic cars will be on display. DJs, cash and merchandise raffles, food, refreshments, exhibits, and vendors will display their wares while the police and fire departments stage displays and demonstrations of life saving technologies and the tools of the trade to keep our community safe. Helicopter landings, armored cars, police dog demonstrations, emergency preparedness displays, and an FBI presentation on “Child Safety on the Internet” will be featured. Guided tours and tactical weapons demonstrations will also be provided.

• A fly-over by LA County Fire Department will kick off the day’s event

• Police demonstrations of canine, taser and a high-risk stop.

• The South Pasadena Fire Department will be performing  a rescue demonstration.

• Helicopters will be landing and taking off throughout the day. Tentative helicopters that will be landing will be  Los Angeles County Fire Department Bell 412,  United States Coast Guard’s HH65 Dauphin and Pasadena Police Department’s Hughes 500.

• Test your driving skills with the Impaired Driving Course.  Wearing specially designed glasses, you will experience what it is like to drive impaired by alcohol.  

• Parents can get their children fingerprinted and photographed at the “Kid print” table, sponsored by Cogent Systems, Inc.  The Cogent Systems computer-fingerprinting machine means there is no ink, so the process of fingerprinting each child including a digital photograph can be done quickly.  

• Come learn what every parent should know regarding “Child Safety on the Internet”, presented by the FBI Citizen’s Academy Family Safety Squad.  This presentation will be held at the Council Chambers at 11:30 AM. 

• Take your best shot at the Los Angeles King’s Hockey Puck Shot game booth. 

• Children can get an “Operation Chill” coupon redeemable for a  FREE Slurpee at participating 7-11 stores, from the South Pasadena Police Officers’ Association booth as well as other free children’s giveaway items.  

• Be sure your child picks up a FREE South Pasadena Police Department tshirt, while supplies last.

• Come see the various fire engines on display.

• Children can get a souvenir photograph with a choice of backgrounds: on a police motorcycle, wearing a police tactical or firefighting gear.  

• Come and learn about how you can help keep the community safe with the  South Pasadena Public Safety Commission’s  “Community Patrol” program. 

• There will be plenty of safety information available from various community organizations.    

• Guided tours of the police and fire stations will be available.  Come see the  interior workings of the police department from the  police shooting range to the jail, and also see how we perform computer composites of suspects.

• Stop by the Pasadena Humane Society trailer and learn about adopting dogs and cats, and area wildlife safety.• Free drinks courtesy of Trader Joe’s.

• The “Star Cars Central” car club, a Hollywood based television and movie car group of owners/builders of famous vehicles, return with another great line-up of cars.
