Pasadena City College Gets Passed Up For First Football Loss

Nick Owens passes for 299 yards and three TDs, but Lancers blow a 10-point lead in the second half of a 33-29 loss to Ventura.

Sometimes passing for nearly 300 yards in a football game is not a good thing.

That was the case Oct. 2, when Pasadena City College's Nick Owens threw for 299 yards against visiting Ventura. The problem was, it took Owens 57 passes to do it – he completed 29 with three touchdowns and two interceptions – as Pasadena blew a 10-point lead in the second half and committed three turnovers in a 33-29 loss, Pasadena's first defeat of the season.

"That's the best defense I've seen this season, but I take full responsibility for not being able to make plays when we needed it," Owens said.

Pasadena (4-1), which totaled just 38 yards rushing, has a bye to figure it all out.

"We always talk about famiy. Families pull together," coach Dennis Gossard said. "What happened tonight has nothing to do with the next five games.  Now we get to see what kind of individual everybody is."
