Tigers' First Win: 39-6

South Pasadena gains 299 yards on the ground to give football coach Marty Konrad his first win in a nonleague home victory Thursday night.

There were a number of football players that looked really strong Thursday night when the Tigers gained its first win against Hoover High.

Tigers coach was quick to point out the biggest factor in their 39-6 nonleague victory.

“The offensive line had a good game,” coach Konrad said. “We can’t run if they don’t block.”

South Pasadena (1-1) had 299 yards rushing as a team, led by , who had 100 yards on five carries. Harvey had a 60-yard touchdown run with 50 seconds left in the first quarter.

Sophomore quarterback finished 4 of 9 passing for 50 yards and two touchdowns.

“We’re starting to click. Guys were getting their blocks and the backs were hitting their holes,” Konrad said.

“The big plays were there all night. We had chances to go deep a lot and we missed two of them. I give credit to the line for blocking and the quarterback for doing the right thing..."

The Tigers opened scoring as Yihai Han scored on an 18-yard run with 8:47 left in the first quarter. Han finished with two touchdowns. He had six carries for 59 yards.

South Pasadena led 19-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw the Tigers force a pair of Hoover turnovers.

Jorge Gomez forced Hoover quarterback Alex Rangel to fumble at his own 21-yard line. Nico Sullivan recovered the fumble.

One play later Harmon hooked up with Hector Fernandez on a 21-yard touchdown.

Hoover (0-2) nearly scored late in the quarter, but   recovered a fumble at the 3-yard line.

The Tornadoes cut the deficit to 26-6 on a 1-yard run by Rangel at the 10:15 mark of the fourth quarter.

Harmon came back and threw a 12-yard touchdown to Justin Cornford and Nathan Lee later scored on a two-yard run.
