(All of the free tickets for the Nikki Giovanni Author Night that were in the Friends of the Library Bookstore inside the South Pasadena Public Library are now gone and we won’t be able to get any more. )

The poetry of  Nikki Giovanni has spurred movements and inspired songs, turned hearts and informed generations. Nikki is simply one of the most widely read poets in America. She’s been hailed as a healer and a national treasure. But if her reputation is writ upon the national stage, her heart resides in the everyday where family and lovers gather, friends commune, and those no longer with us are remembered.  Her latest book Chasing Utopia affirms once again why Nikki Giovanni is as relevant as ever.

World renowned Nikki Giovanni has received 25 honorary doctorates as well as “Woman of the Year” awards from three different cities. She’s written 19 poetry collections, beginning in 1968 and has co-authored 3 nonfiction titles. She has come to be called a “National Treasure” and most recently, one of Oprah Winfrey’s 25 “Living Legends.” Nikki’s autobiography “Gemini” was a finalist for the National Book Award. Her “Blues for All the Changes” reached #4 on the Los Angeles Times Bestseller list, a rare achievement for a book of poems. Most recently her children’s picture book “Rosa” about civil rights legend Rosa Parks, became a Caldecott Honors books and climbed to #3 on the New York Times Bestseller list. Shortly after its release, “Bicycles: Love Poems” reached #1 on Amazon.com for Poetry.
