Patch Blog: Free Cello Concert with Kendall Reid Saturday

The Arts Crawl will celebrate South Pasadena Arts and Culture! Come out to the library for a free concert.

A classical music performance with Kendall Reid, also known as “The Tall Cello Guy,” will be showcased in the Community Room on Saturday, July 14 at 7 p.m.

He will be accompanied by highly accomplished pianist, Shari Raynor. The free event is presented by the South Pasadena Public Library, the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library, and the South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce.

No tickets or reservations are needed and refreshments will be served. The Community Room is located at 1115 El Centro Street. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

The free concert is part of the , a Summer Celebration of the Arts on July 14 from 5 pm to 9 pm where artists, businesses, and organizations join forces to present a “Neighborhood Night on the Town.” Art, music, and poetry lovers are invited to enjoy the gallery openings, live music, and other demonstrations by local talent.

Kendall Reid was born in Cape Town, South Africa, and at the age of eight started serious cello study. Kendall has played with many of South Africa's leading orchestras, in some instances as lead cellist. He toured the UK in 1993 with the South African National Youth Orchestra. He is also a keen chamber music performer and his Moya Trio won the South African National Chamber Music Competition in 1997. Kendall’s IT career eventually took him to the United Kingdom and then on to the United States where he met and became a cello student of Andrew Cook.

Pianist Shari Raynor made her debut at age eleven with the Florida Gulf Coast Symphony, proceeding to win many national competitions, which culminated with her receiptof the Presidential Medallion in the Arts at the White House. In 1989, Miss Raynor was chosen as one of only ten Americans in the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition where she performed to international acclaim. This launched a series of chamber music concerts and solo performances that have taken her from U.S. venues including Carnegie Hall to concert halls in Cairo, Egypt.
