Patch Blog: Free Concert with Brasil Brazil

Stop by the library Thursday for a back-to-school concert with styles of jazz, latin and African drumming.

(SPARC) in partnership with the will present a “Back to School” Labor Day Concert on Thursday, Sept. 1 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The show is also supported by the and the Los Angeles County Arts Commission. The celebration will be presented on the El Centro Street side of the Library Park, adjacent to the . The free performance will present the exciting band .

The Brasil Brazil Concert will showcase internationally renowned singers, Ana Gazzola and Sonia Santos. Ana Gazzola started playing the guitar and singing at age 5 in Caxias do Sul, the southernmost state in Brazil. She began her professional singing career with Lucho Gatica, a well-known Brazilian bolero singer.

Later Ana moved to Ipanema where she became the headliner at Caligua, a famous jazz club. Ana has also toured extensively in Europe, Asia, and especially North America where she has lived for the last 15 years. Sonia Santos began her musical career in 1977 when she starred in the Brazilian Follies at the Hotel National in Rio de Janeiro and then went on to produce her own show “Brazilian Summer,” which was sponsored by VARIG Brazilian Airlines. Her performances have been enthusiastically received on six continents. The Brasil Brazil show will deliver exciting Brazilian popular music in a variety of styles tinged with jazz and Latin and African drumming.
