Patch Blog: Ray Bradbury to be Honored at Fremont Centre Theatre

Event to Honor Ray Bradbury is a Fundraiser for the FRiends of the South Pasadena Public Library

A tribute honoring Ray Bradbury will be presented at the Fremont Centre Theatre on Sunday, October 21 at 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 7:00 p.m.).  Performers from Ray Bradbury’s Pandemonium Theatre Company will give their favorite readings from Bradbury plays as they offer their goodbyes to their beloved mentor and friend.

The event is a fundraiser for the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library, an all-volunteer nonprofit support group.  A minimum donation of $20 per seat is suggested. Please call the Fremont Center Theatre at 626 441-5977 regarding reservations and donations.

Easily one of the greatest writers of the 20th Century, Ray Bradbury passed away on June 5, 2012 at age 91. Ray had lived in Southern California for more than 75 years, writing more than 50 books and 600 short stories. His iconic works include “The Martian Chronicles,” “The Illustrated Man,” “Dandelion Wine,” and “Fahrenheit 451.”

Ray was awarded an Emmy, an Oscar nomination, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the 2004 National Medal of Arts Lifetime Achievement Award, and the 2007 Pulitzer Prize Special Citation. From the 1970s on he was called “The Greatest Living Science Fiction Author.”

Through the years many Bradbury plays were performed at the Fremont Centre
Theatre with the delighted author/playwright in attendance. On two separate
occasions Ray made unforgettable speaking appearances for the South Pasadena Public Library, first in 2008, and then for his 90th Birthday Celebration in 2010.  Both times the City Council declared an official “Ray Bradbury Day” in South Pasadena.
