City's 2013 Image Award Presented to Restoration Concert's Kathy Folsom & Kay Rosser
Incoming South Pasadena Mayor Marina Khubesrian, M.D., presented Kathy Folsom and Kay Rosser of the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library’s Restoration Concert Committee with the 2013 Image Award, awarded each year to individuals or groups that enhance the image of the City beyond its borders.
Mayor Khubesrian, who presented the award to the Committee Co-Chairs at the December 29, 2013 Crunch Time party, said, “The Restoration Concert Series, now in its 18th year, brings wonderful classical and jazz concerts to the community of South Pasadena and beyond, and the program is completely run by volunteers. Kay is one of the five original committee volunteers, and Kay and Kathy are current Co-Chairs.”
The Series consists of eight concerts held in the Library Community Room on Sunday afternoons at 4:00 p.m. The concerts frequently feature internationally known and award-winning musicians and attract music lovers from throughout the Los Angeles area and beyond. Requests are regularly received from performers who wish to participate in the Series.
The next concert will be held on February 2, 2014, and will be performed by the New Hollywood String Quartet, which is in its sixth season as “Quartet in Residence.” Season tickets are $96 for eight concerts or $20 per concert at the door when space permits (for additional information, call 626-799-6333).

In addition to the two Co-Chairs, Committee Members consist of Laurie Astle, David Battin, Shireen Chang, Ann Erler, Janet Ervin, Connie Flanders, John Flanders, Ronald Folsom, Neil Rosser, and Gloria Weinberg.
The Series began when the South Pasadena Public Library celebrated its 100th year in 1995. Volunteer Cindy Line was asked to plan a chamber music event in the historic Library Community Room. The event was so well received that she was asked by the City Librarian to form a music series. It was the Committee’s original intent that all proceeds would be dedicated to continued enhancements of the Community Room or the Library, thus the name “Restoration Concert Series.” The group also accepts donations, with four categories of donors: patrons, sponsors, friends, and supporters. A nine-foot Steinway grand piano was acquired for the Community Room with the funds.
