Library Author Talk and Art Exhibit to Celebrate Bob Peak

An Author Night celebrating Bob Peak, the iconic commercial and fine artist, will be presented in the South Pasadena Public Library Community Room on Thursday, September 19 at 7 p.m. The free event will feature a presentation by his son, Tom Peak, whose new comprehensive coffee table book, "The Art of Bob Peak," covers the legendary 40-year career which earned Bob Peak the title "Father of the Modern Hollywood Movie Poster." The event will also feature an exhibit of original artwork, a short film,  and a PowerPoint retrospective of an extraordinary 40-year career during which Bob Peak set the standard and rewrote the rules of illustration artistry time after time.

During his remarkable 40-year run, Bob Peak created the instantly recognizable posters for "West Side Story," "My Fair Lady," "Camelot," "Apocalypse Now," the first five "Star Trek" films, and many more. He was also one of the most prolific illustrators of the 20th Century, painting and drawing the artwork for hundreds of eye-catching magazine advertisements, fashion spreads, "Sports Illustrated" articles, and "TV Guide" profiles. Bob Peak is also responsible for 45 "Time" magazine covers.

The Community Room is located at 1115 El Centro Street. No tickets or reservations are necessary and refreshments will be served. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.  A book signing during which copies of "The Art of Bob Peak" will be available for purchase will conclude the proceedings. The event is presented by the South Pasadena Public Library and the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library. Special thanks to Scott Gandell & Anneline De Croos of South Pasadena Mercantile and the South Pasadena Arts Council.
