SPHS footbal season opener

In their first encounter in many decades Eagle Rock hosted  South Pasadena in an intersectional football game Friday night at Mengel Field. The Tigers took advantage of the numerous Eagle mistakes to stay in the game and even pulled into one TD After a sluggish start with numerous costly penalties that helped stall several key possessions, the Eagles got going in the second half. They scored early in the game a nd took the lead, but several turnovers and penalties  put the Tigers back in the game. Going into the second half the Eagles held a tenuous one point edge over the underdog Tigers. The Eagles finally got their act together and came away with a 40-15 win to bring their record to 2-0. It was  Eagles head coach Greg Pierce first meeting against his former alma mater, where was a standout player for the the Tigers .  For the most part the young So Pas team held their own against the favored Eagles, but eventually their inexperience showed as they wore down in the second half, and their inability mount an offense to counter the Eagles second half scores.
