Photo Gallery: South Pas Chinese-American Club Celebrates Lunar New Year by Feeding Homeless

Mayor Mike Ten and Suzette Lee-Shults of the South Pasadena Chinese-American Club feed the homeless at Pasadena's Union Station for the Chinese New Year.

It may have been Superbowl Sunday, but the grand battle between the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers didn't prevent Mayor Mike Ten and Suzette Lee-Shults from the from feeding the homeless at Union Station Homeless Services in Pasadena.

Members of the South Pasadena Chinese-American Club feed the homeless every month at Union Station. More than 40 homeless individuals feasted on kung pao chicken and pork with cabbage from South Pasadena's   on Sunday.

"During the past several months more people have been coming here to get food," said Lee-Shults. "We have enough food to feed 60 people because we want to have extra."

Chinese-American Club members volunteer monthly to participate in the community service event. Lee-Shults's two sons, Matthew and Andrew, along with her husband, Dennis, helped serve dinner, scooping hefty helpings of rice and chicken onto paper plates.

"We are trying to fill a need that our community in South Pasadena hasn't been able to fill yet," Ten said.
