South Pas Moms Raise $1,350 to Combat 'America's Indoor Childhood'

"Cupcakes and Cocktails" raised money through a campout at a local residence Saturday.

Saturday marked the National Wildlife Federation's Great American Backyard Campout intended to raise money and awareness for programs that help combat "America's indoor childhood."

South Pas resident Elizabeth O'Connor, her wife, Sylvia, and a group of other local moms make up "Cupcakes and Cocktails." The South Pas team raised a total of $1,350 through a campout at the O'Connor's house Saturday where kids enjoyed art projects, potato sack races and tug of war. Notably, they raised the most funds of all teams participating nationwide.

"This was all her idea, but it was a great one," O'Connor said of Sylvia's vision. "We will also do this next year, and hopefully getting it out there will inspire others to do the same."

The over-nighter was catered with food from local businesses: , Dot's Cupcakes, and Whole Foods.

"It was a very local affair," said O'Connor. "I think the good food got the participation rate up!"
