No dig on these guys... But god forbid an exciting restaurant would open in South Pasadena.

Unfortunately 9 out of 10 cats that enter a shelter do not make it out alive. This is a statisticRead More that the shelters typically don't volunteer to people but it is true nonetheless. It doesn't matter what breed the cat is, how adorable or sweet it may seem to people...and no I am not making this up. As far as euthanizing kittens under a certain weight or age, typically shelters euthanize all kittens that are too young to eat on their own, ie "bottle babies". This is because shelters do not have the staff to care for these kittens, who are really just babies and need to be bottle fed every 2 hours or so. Many shelters work with rescue groups who can and do take SOME of these kittens but just a small fraction of the numbers the shelters take in every day. Right now is Spring so it is "Kitten and Puppy Season", which means the shelters will be inundated with these little ones, far too many for the shelters to be able to handle without euthanizing an incredibly large amount. If you EVER find animals like this they will have a FAR better chance of living and finding a forever home if you reach out to local Rescue organizations, or ask your friends and neighbors who you trust to help you rehome them, or network them online on Facebook for example. There are many Wonderful Rescue organizations nationwide which you can find online, or even by reaching out to your local PetSmart/Petco and those who run adoptions there. So Sad for this poor kitten...

I was told that shelters euthanized all kittens under a certain age, is that true?

congrats to Lissa! Lissa and Jim are two of the nicest and most dedicated people I have met. TheyRead More have been a big asset to So Pas with their Fremont CentreTheater, making it a prime cultural performing arts center in the area. They have also contributed their time to various community endeavors. They are well deserving of recognition

how can a New York news station determine commute time in the LA area? they have enough troubleRead More commuting on their home turf!

Most people leave South Pasadena to work, unfortunately. If I worked at city hall, I'd be putting inRead More the effort to getting the dilapidated southwest business area repopulated. It's a ghost town over there by the Ostrich Farm.

to confirm a previous comment I made, this shows how Ellen Daigle is always at the forefront of anyRead More worthwhile cause

Having the film crews around is nothing new to South Pas., however, when all traffic (Grand Ave. andRead More Mission) comes to a stand still, one has to hope this sitcom is short lived.
Janet Cartwright March 18, 2013 at 06:53 pm
Something was going on film-wise today down on Mission/Grand. Actually, for a little while now.Read More Maybe the Mike Judge thing.

It isn't just dehydration, you can still have a headache drinking plenty of water and stayingRead More hydrated, though it certainly is one of the biggest causes of discomfort if you are dehydrated. http://thebrainbank.scienceblog.com/2012/09/02/the-science-of-a-hangover/ By the way, Chris, you were great in Captain America! (JK)

Attention, people! A hangover is a symptom of dehydration .. if you drink as much water as you doRead More alcohol, you will NOT have a hangover .. it'll be cheaper, too, as your system cannot tolerate that much liquid, & you'll get more exercise, running to the BR to pee your brains out. Nonetheless, when one is lit, one tends to be illogical .. the term "drink responsibly" puzzles me, for if I wanted to be responsible, I probably wouldn't be drinking in the first place ..

I'm looking forward to this community created and rooted business to occupy a great building onRead More Mission. The design looks strong and appropriate for South Pasadena and should be a real asset to the city!

Ellen was an innovative homemaker when she started er thriving business which is now knownRead More throughout the country as one the top silkscreening businesses anywhere. Ellen and husband Joe have made the business what it is today. Besides running the business Ellen is also involved in numerous endeavors around town and is an integral part of the SP chamber of commerce. If there is an important event happening in town , Ellen is usually involved. I have always admired her work and volunteerism ethics. Hats off to Ellen and Joe Daigle!

Good for South Pasadena! Residents are hopefully coming to understand the importance of welcomingRead More filming on our streets, and hopefully - making it easier. Whether or not you're in the industry, it's good for all of us!
henk friezer February 27, 2013 at 04:54 pm
years ago I met Micheal Landon who used S Pas extensively for various episodes. I asked him whatRead More prompted him to film his series in So Pas. he responded that it reminded him of a small mid-western all-american town that could be anywhere. He stated that it was the kind of town where Ozzie and Harriet could be walking their dog down the street or have the Beaver and Wally playing in a front yard. I think that kind of summed it up!

That is curious, Dale. I'll ask! Yeah, nothing I want more with my pint of Guinness than a stuffed,Read More mounted lion :-)

Helium is the second most abundant element in the universe, but not on this pale blue dot. It'sRead More also the second lightest element and, unlike hydrogen (the lightest element) doesn't combine with other elements to make heavier compounds (like water, for instance). Most of the helium that was around when the earth was formed has long since drifted away. New helium is produced in the earth's crust as a byproduct of radioactive decay of other elements. If it gets into the atmosphere, it eventually escapes into space.
Buzlightyear aka marty February 15, 2013 at 11:00 pm
JT, since Helium is the second most abundant element in the universe, I assumed you were joking.Read More But, wow, it's true. And apparently, there is no futures market, and the gov sets the price. Hmmm... How to capitalize on the shortage of helium....
JT Hampton February 15, 2013 at 10:22 pm
They're also just generally bad for the environment. Plus, isn't there a shortage on helium?

Although it's nice to see some diversity in town, and a new bakery to somewhat fill the shoes leftRead More after the Great Harvest fiasco, I find La Monarca's offerings to be a bit mediocre and relatively expensive. For instance, a small pan dulce that would cost 35 cents or so in El Sereno costs $1 at La Monarca. The tres leches cake is okay, but I've had better at even Portos, and that's not even a Mexican bakery. I will give them another try after a few months to see if things get better.
