Matra's post about numbers had me thinking. I had time today so on my evening walk I sat for 15…Read More minute at El Centro at Indiana an intersections that IMO is one of the worst in the city and should be patrolled more often. Here's what I saw.
From 6pm to 6:15pm 131 cars passed the intersection 80 cars stopped. 42 cars rolled through quickly {not a Ca stop.} 12 of the 42 did a true Ca stop ie they gave an effort to stop. 6 of the 42 were making a right turn. 9 cars completely ran the stop signs. All of those car ran it on El Centro. Interesting info IMO. Pathetic nothing is really do about it.

Try Marengo and Monterey Road....about 1 in 10 cars run that stop sign and have for 40 years....

Issuing crosswalk citations are in my view used to collect revenue for the city. It has been done…Read More many times before. More than 160 people have gotten $500 traffic citations after the South Pasadena Police Department set up an elaborate sting involving a decoy school bus with people walking on and off the vehicle. The ticket operation pulled in around 80 thousand dollars. Those tickets were eventually thrown out. issuing tickets won't solve the problem, but try telling that to the people who reap the benefits.

I understand the constraints animal shelters have, but you might think that this little one, who as…Read More tough enough to ride out a trip in an engine compartment, might have gotten a bit of special attention .. I blame no one, and feel bad for all involved .. it's just a damned shame

Unfortunately 9 out of 10 cats that enter a shelter do not make it out alive. This is a statistic…Read More that the shelters typically don't volunteer to people but it is true nonetheless. It doesn't matter what breed the cat is, how adorable or sweet it may seem to people...and no I am not making this up. As far as euthanizing kittens under a certain weight or age, typically shelters euthanize all kittens that are too young to eat on their own, ie "bottle babies". This is because shelters do not have the staff to care for these kittens, who are really just babies and need to be bottle fed every 2 hours or so. Many shelters work with rescue groups who can and do take SOME of these kittens but just a small fraction of the numbers the shelters take in every day. Right now is Spring so it is "Kitten and Puppy Season", which means the shelters will be inundated with these little ones, far too many for the shelters to be able to handle without euthanizing an incredibly large amount. If you EVER find animals like this they will have a FAR better chance of living and finding a forever home if you reach out to local Rescue organizations, or ask your friends and neighbors who you trust to help you rehome them, or network them online on Facebook for example. There are many Wonderful Rescue organizations nationwide which you can find online, or even by reaching out to your local PetSmart/Petco and those who run adoptions there. So Sad for this poor kitten...

As a bicyclists in the City of South Pasadena, I think it is noteworthy to bicyclists and more…Read More importantly motorists to see the South Pasadena Police on bicycles.
They should ride on the streets in traffic and of course follow the rules of the road.
CVC 21200 : Bicycles have every right and responsibility as a motor vehicle.
They will demonstrate and model expected bicycle handling skills and how to bike in traffic.
Perhaps they could work with BikeSGV or C.I.C.L.E. to provide biking in traffic classes for the South Pasadena community. This dovetails well with the South Pasadena Bicycle Master Plan.

Good point, there, G.P. I reckon that happens on a daily basis for a locksmith. I guess you need to…Read More ask what you would do if you were in the locksmith's position. Re-locking the door after he got it open could open a can a worms for which he may not be prepared

Don't blame the Locksmith for being fooled.
Based on this story, the Locksmith wasn't fooled by…Read More asking for his proof of ownership. This is what he is supposed to do. Now once the door is opened and no proof could be obtained, then he is to relock the door and move on. The story doesn't say what happened next. This happened to me with AAA. The tow guy wanted proof first and I told him as soon as he opens the door, I will give proof since my wallet and keys were locked inside. He would not. I recalled AAA and they sent a different driver who would. Opening the door for proof was appropriate for the Locksmith.

Total coward, and supremely dangerous .. I am so glad for you and your community .. but be cautious,…Read More as at this point he is only a suspect, and as yet not convicted .. my fear with this sort of thing is that even if he is the creep, mindless copycats may be compelled to emulate him .. so, throw the book at him if convicted

Thank God you got him! Now, let's put him in jail with John Orr, and they both can rot…Read More together....forever

One time I went into a public restroom at a store. There was a boy around 7 in there by himself.…Read More When he left, he turned off the light, leaving me in there with the lights off. As I thought about the situation, I thought it was probably not a good idea, in this day and age, for me to be alone in a restroom with an unaccompanied boy, and if it ever happens again, I will leave. Parents should not let a kid that age go into a bathroom by himself in this day and age.
