For South Pasadena Blockbuster, ‘This is the End’—Only Not Quite

The countdown to the Fair Oaks store's oblivion has begun—59 days to go.

Blockbuster’s last movie rental might have been the apocalyptic comedy This is the End, but for the Blockbuster store on 1100 Fair Oaks Ave., the end is far from near.

The local movie rental is doing brisk business since it reopened Thursday after a two-day break, with precisely 59 more days to go before it finally closes early January 2014, along with hundreds of other Blockbuster stores that have been forced to shut since the company filed for bankruptcy in 2010.

Everything in the South Pas Blockbuster store is for sale—nothing will be kept back, according to an employee as well as signs posted on the storefront—even though “everything” really only means DVDs and Blu Rays, mainly in English, priced at $12.99 and below.
